The need for accurate shape measurement and modeling of human musculo-skeletal system appears to be more and more important for both, clinical practice and incorporating emerging technologies to orthopedic and rehabilitation devices and systems. Particularly important emphasis is set on non-invasive, i.e. radiation-free approaches. The contemporary optical and probe-based measurement systems, together with 3D modeling and computer graphics techniques, provide the key platform for methodology development. However, the methodology presented in the paper involves the usage of all traditional means of human musculo-skeletal system registration, such as X-ray radiographs, CT, MRI, PET scans, empowering the novel approach with abundant data and information from actual medical information systems and electronic picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). We present the generic algorithm for reconstructing anatomic musculo-skeletal structures from clouds of points and basic parameterization that enables their customization. The key benefits of the methodology are shown through the comparative analysis of the accuracy of the developed models and traditionally captured 2D and 3D images, and illustrated by the sample case study of spinal deformity diagnostics.
